Social Innovation & Engineering Design

UTIM's Social Innovation and Engineering Design workshop is designed for students passionate about engineering design projects. This program is inspired by University of Toronto's Engineering Strategies and Practice, as well as Praxis. We provide opportunities for students to design products they prefer with a complex, real-world issue as their motivation. We also challenge the participants' creative and critical thinking, as well as their abilities to apply engineering design principles fluidly to tackle existing issues.

In the workshop, qualified mentors will guide students through the rigorous engineering design process in order to solidify their foundation. In addition, they will also teach students how to formally document their design in a professional engineering format. Students will then prototype their design to test their products' functionality. If everything goes well, they will professionalize their product: by setting up an online campaign to obtain funding, introduce it to a U of T club, sell it to interested companies, etc.

Sign-up will commence in September 2017. Stay tuned.

Workshop Format
